Professor Eva Eisler and alumni of the K.O.V. Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague come together in an exhibition which is the third in a series of Marzee shows spotlighting the creative direction, aesthetic, and intellectual approach used by educators to anchor their courses, and how this informs the work of their students.
Galerie Marzee will also be showing new work by Carmen Hauser, whose feelings and intuition guide her through the creative process as she collects, presses and threads thousands of leaves to make the jewels featured in the exhibition; Julia Walter, whose Camping with Friends exhibition is amuletic, symbolic and full of energy; and Florian Weichsberger, whose exhibition Moon, Sun and Earth is a three-part brooch series that uses celestial bodies to mirror our own corporeal and mental states.
INTRO
On November 6, INTRO, a unique new contemporary jewellery gallery, will open in Amsterdam. The very first gallery of its kind, INTRO will provide a space exclusively for recently graduated jewellery students from around the world to show and sell their work for a period of three years. Established and supported by Galerie Marzee, INTRO will be curated in three-year cycles by graduates and/or undergraduates from international schools and academies. For the first cycle and inaugural period, Galerie Marzee has asked Valerie James and Luke Towne, alumni from the Jewelry + Metalsmithing program at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, USA, to take charge.
Galerie Marzee has invited a broad selection of graduates from this year’s Marzee Graduate Show to participate in this new project, giving them the opportunity to show their graduate collection, and new work as it develops, in a space dedicated to the promotion of emerging young talent in contemporary jewellery.
INTRO will also present a series of smaller editions by each new artist, offering affordable pieces that reflect the mood and preoccupations of their larger body of work. The 2017 and 2018 graduates who were part of our previous Marzee for Starters project will now join INTRO for the remainder of their three-year involvement. The opening exhibition will showcase work by our selection of graduates from 2019.
