Joannette van der Veer is a curator, writer, editor, moderator and project manager: a true post-digital Renaissance woman. She holds an MA in Design Cultures from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and a BA in Lifestyle Design from Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.
Her practice within the design, arts and culture field can be best described as hybrid. Curiosity, criticism, collaboration and conviviality are the core principles of her hybrid creative hustle, and she places truly refreshing emphasis on accessibility in design criticism.
In her work as the ‘design activism catalyst’ at Onomatopee, a publishing house/gallery/collective/art criticism community based in Eindhoven, Joannette seeks new ways to present arts and culture to the public. She encourages the consideration of various modes of (self-)criticism, reflections on the mundane and the sublime, both natural and artificial (un)intelligence, and a ‘question everything’ attitude through installations and user interactions that inject art- and design pedagogy into public consciousness.
