Fernanda Forero is a Colombian artist currently living and working in Brooklyn, New York City under the pseudonym RAWMISKY. She holds a BA in Visual Arts at Pontical Xaverian University, Bogota, Colombia.
Rawmisky took a non-traditional path to jewellery-making, coming to it through their interests in drawing, sculpture and performance art. Together, these led her to an appreciation of jewellery and other embodied artifacts’ power to express one’s desired presence and represent individual methods of navigating the world.
Each of Rawmisky’s jewels is itself a lyrical drawing within/without the body: tiny humans perch across the bridge of your nose and hug your ears for comfort, a little meek, a little searching, a little vulnerable. Wire silhouettes peer out from your lips, making visible the negative spaces that our own bodies inhabit within the atmosphere.
Modest and willowy, these friends take up only minute proportions of physical space, yet they command recognition: ‘See me!’.
Inspired by gender nonconforming aesthetics, identity narratives, the unconscious and rich inner worlds, Rawmisky’s works propose new methods for occupying social space. They ask you to consider how you too fit within the world in a meaningful way.
