SO MINT! is a series of posts on fresh graduates in fashion, jewellery and design from around the world. Handpicked by Current Obsession.

Gjerde/Skjold/Vindu
(Eng: Fence/Shield/Window)

My work is connected to a representation of protection and openness, in different shapes and categories, like a shield, a window or a fence. I use stone and crystal as my medium and carve the shield into a brooch out from colourful minerals.

Brooch, nephrite, steel
Portrait, brooch, thulite
Window, brooch, rose quartz, steel
Portrait, brooch, obsidan

I carve the front of the brooch flat and matt, to give highlight and focus on the qualities of the stones. On the back, I carve out jewellery elements from the stone, to create a brooch back with only adding a needle to the stone. By using the shield shape, I borrow some of the symbolism of heraldic, to talk about an identity through colours and patterns on a coat of arms.
