Member of the Board, Jewellery in Culture Foundation

About Jewellery in Culture Foundation

Jewellery in Culture Foundation (JiC) is the governing body behind Current Obsession. JiC reflects on society through the lens of jewellery and body adornment, promoting and developing contemporary jewellery discourse through publishing and curatorial projects. JiC supports Current Obsession’s projects, including OBSESSED! Jewellery Festival, Munich Jewellery Week and the GEMZ Talent Accelerator Programme.

Why join the Board

Joining the Jewellery in Culture Foundation Board means becoming part of a small but ambitious organisation with an international outlook. As a Board Member, you will guide JiC’s mission to broaden the meaning and position of jewellery, unite audiences within and beyond the field, and amplify makers’ voices.

Here’s what you can expect

Collaboration with visionaries

You will join a group of engaged peers who bring expertise from across culture, design, publishing, finance, and education.

Insight into contemporary jewellery and adornment

As a Board Member, you gain a front-row seat to the development of projects such as Munich Jewellery Week, OBSESSED! Jewellery Festival, and the GEMZ.

Strategic conversations, not daily operations

Your role is to support and challenge the leadership, set direction and safeguard governance – not to manage projects day-to-day.

Time and energy commitment

Around 3 hours a month, spread across quarterly meetings, reading papers in advance, and occasional advocacy or community activities.

Influence and advocacy

Board Members help open doors: by introducing JiC to networks, lending credibility and championing the foundation’s mission in their own communities.

An inclusive and experimental culture

Expect a spirit of curiosity, experimentation, and openness. We value diverse perspectives and encourage debate, while striving for an atmosphere of mutual respect and shared learning.

Support for you

New members will be offered an introduction session to get acquainted with our work, policies and current projects. You’ll have access to past reports and publications, and ongoing communication with the JiC leadership.

Role & Responsibilities

Board Members are foundation governors responsible for good stewardship and strategic oversight. You will:

Safeguard JiC’s purpose, values and reputation; ensure compliance and prudent financial management.

Support advocacy; open doors to networks across culture, education and industry.

Act as an ambassador for JiC at events and within your professional community.

Participate in Board committees or short-term working groups as needed.

We’re especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

Governance, finance, risk or legal expertise (e.g. foundations, non-profits, cultural sector).

Fundraising, development and philanthropic networks.

– Curatorial, editorial or scholarly practice in jewellery/adornment, design, visual art, craft or fashion.

– Community, inclusion and audience development; international and intercultural collaboration.

– Digital publishing, product, information or communications strategy.

– Education and talent development; links to academies, residencies and research programmes.

– Experience with communities, and formats of projects and knowledge exchange under-represented in European cultural governance.

We welcome applicants from a range of professional and cultural backgrounds, including outside the jewellery field, who are motivated by JiC’s vision.

Commitment

– Meetings: ~4 Board meetings per year (hybrid, Amsterdam/online), plus one annual strategy day.

– Term: 4 years, renewable once.

– Time: ~3 hours per month on average.

– Location: Amsterdam & online.

– Compensation: Voluntary/unremunerated; reasonable expenses reimbursed.
